Delivering drums that can roar and purr

To deliver these sound properties, you need superior drums with the most meticulous design. That’s where Pearl’s Superior Shell Technology comes in. This proprietary technique involves saturating the Maple, Birch and Mahogany wood plies with Pearl’s AcoustiGlue – permeating each pore and drying to the wood’s exact consistency. The plies are then baked in high-temperature with 1000 PSI of hydraulic pressure to produce indestructible shells that exhibit rich, thunderous tones and outstanding resonance.

Different shell thicknesses provide optimum projection

The Pearl Reference Pure shells are built with different thicknesses to provide a more balanced range of low and high frequencies. Drums with lower frequencies, such as floor toms and the larger bass drums, require greater energy to equal the projection of the drums with higher frequencies – such as snares or smaller toms – so they need to be thicker. These 8-ply, 7.2mm shells offer crystal-clear projection with rumbling sustain. Meanwhile, the drums with higher frequencies use 6-ply, 5.4mm shells for excellent, all-round use with full-bodied tone. Think of this kit as its own drum orchestra.
